The Life Cycle of the Employee

Everything has to be made, everything has to be operated to work. Someone has to operate these objects, or sell us their products. Out of this need a species called Employee has risen. Not much is known about this species as I have far more research to perform. This page features extracts from my field journal.

  • It seems to me that the employee develops in three main stages. These are apparently maturational, and have little to do with the working environment.

The first, larval, stage of the employee is the apprentice. Also known as the YTS this being is deemed too immature or incapable of proper "work". Unlike other speicies, the apprentice is not cared for by others in the nest/hive, or Company, but is given menial tasks such as filing and making coffee, thus sustaining the needs of workers of a more advanced stage.

  • The second, teenage, stage is the Worker. This is a fleeting stage. It is rare for an Employee to stay in this stage for much longer than 2 months. In this stage the Employee thinks that they are the backbone of The Company, and The Company looks after them. Thus the Worker is accurate, competent and enthusiastic.

  • The tertiary stage is the Cynic. By now the worker has failed to please The Company, and has been told about it. The Cynic is usually recognised by the flock of Workers he or she tries to attract. A truly successful Cynic would get at least one Apprentice to keep the Workers happier for longer."

  • The Company is the workers term for life. The Employer, is a God-like being who has the power over who stays and who is cast out of The Company. No Employee has ever reported seeing The Boss and stayed within The Company for long.

There appears to be a caste called Manager. These seem to serve no particular function. They spend the time accelerating the aging of the others. They have an amazing ability to turn healthy Workers into Cynics within a matter of days. It is possible that these Managers are a superflous part of the Company and may even become extinct. Some Managers seem to have seen that possibility and are currently trying to revert some Cynics to Workers
