This page has come as a result of a study of the creature commonly refered to as Goth. It has been an intensive study, one fraught with perils. Perils such as lung cancer, slavery and severe chafing. For future reference Gothi is the plural for Goth.
The Goth comes in two main subspecies, regalis and vulgaris, the royal and common Goth. These creatures are barely recognisable in appearance. We will describe Gothi Regalis first.
This creature is an underdeveloped humanoid. It's features are pale, scrawny with prominent cheekbones. The Gothi Regalis commonly wears what looks like late victorian formal wear, and is obsrved following the ettiquette of the era.The most striking thing about the appearance of the Gothi Regalis is the zebra like markings upon the face. Regalis has much in common with the zebra, for tend they to display markings which are both unique, and monochrome.
Some Regalis have aberrent genes and show colouring on the face and in the clothing, but this is rare.
Vulgaris, again a humanoid creature, seems to have a black rubber or leather skin, usually accompanied by potrusions from the back of the feet which have been measured averaging between 3 and 6 inches.
Humanoid in appearance they share the domains of Regalis and Vulgaris although their function is a mystery. They look like what would you would expect to see if you crossbred Vulgar and Regal Goth and then took hallucinogens. Their skin and garments floruece under ultraviolet light, the reasoning behind this is unknown. They have a different caliberation of senses, where Dithurgi have reported to see trails and see patterns in the music. It is unknown whether this is a form of kinethesia or a survival trait.
The monochrome face markings seen in Regalis are much less common and are now showing more colourings, suggesting a contamination of the Regalis bloodlines. Vulgaris as a subspecies have been on the increase in the past 5 years.
The Punks, Grungies and Rockers have similar skin and markings and are attracted to the same sounds as the Vulgaris.
The Usual Goth gathering place is a small den somewhere underground, sometimes they prefer converted theatres/cinemas or churches. These Haunts as they are known are full of smoke and almost totally without light. The Haunts themselves resonate with sound that has been described by scholars as "artistic feedback" to this the Gothi perform a mating dance. This dance is complex and has many individual componants.
- The Mosh: Simply jumping up and down flailing the arms and any other handy objects in an agressive manner to all nearby. (nb Regalis rarely dance in this fashion as it damages the markings)
- The Groove: Appears to have no rhythmn or even signs of moving with the "music". It is simply waving the arms around gently.
- The Swirly: As the name suggests it is spinning around until the dancer is unable to dance any more. The swirly dancer usually conforms to the three steps forward, one sideways and three back. These steps are usually large but vary in size during the dance.
- The Too Cool: This is not a dance, but still an integral part of the mating ritual. The Gothi, usually Regalis, stands at the edge of the dancefloor and watches. This coupled with the intense stare is seen as very attractive among the Gothi.
- The "Big Fish, Little Fish, Cardboard Box": This is more the domain of Gothi Dithurgis. The dance is moving the hands to represent the shape of a big fish then moving hands closer to represent a small fish, finally outlining a box shape with the hands. This is repeated roughly in time to the music.
- The Clueless: as the name suggests the Gothi has no idea what any limb is doing, but is trying to approximate the movements of the music.
- Headbang: Overstated, but underated headbanging involves violently swinging the head back and forth in time to various aural stimuli. Those performing this part of the dance do not stop until 15 years after severe whiplash has set in.
Extra points are awarded for head-butting.
- Line Dance: This is a disconcerting sign. The Gothi have been recently observed standing in lines and making basic stepping motions, almost synchronised. This is a worrying sign as it suggests the influence of Country and Western. Fortunatly this dance only occurs in the early part of the night.
- Tai Chi: It appears that due to the threat posed by Homo yobbus has prompted the Gothi to develop a form of self defence in relation to the percieved danger. This reaction has prompted a form of martial arts similar to Tai Chi. It has also been hypothesised that the Regalis dance like this to avoid concussion from their many bangles and trashy pieces of costume jewellery.
Gothi are vunerable to sunlight, this is shown at the end of each gathering. The Gatherings end at around dawn and those who are unfortunate enough to be emerging into the day suffer intense pain and temporary blindness. Most just look for chips.
